Staff Recommendation Background:
On October 11, 2011, the Broward County Commissioners of Broward County adopted Ordinance No. 2011-19 (the Code of Ethics), which implemented a Code of Ethics for elected municipal officials. The Code of Ethics establishes certain conditions and disclosure obligations on elected officials who engage in fundraising on behalf of charitable organizations. Certain sections of the Code of Ethics provides that additional obligations shall not apply to an elected official who raises funds for those charities and events which are formally approved by elected official’s municipality.
From time to time, the Mayor and Commission of the City of Lauderdale Lakes may desire to raise funds for designated charities and organizations. On January 14, 2020, the City Commission hereby formally approved the solicitation of funds for those certain non-profit charities and fundraising events described on attached Exhibit A. As a part of the discussion, the City Commission may recommend changes and the list will be updated accordingly. Funding Source:
