The Caribbean American Unity Fest is a signature cultural event for the City of Lauderdale Lakes and will mark its second annual celebration in 2026. The event is scheduled to take place on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Vincent Torres Memorial Park.
The Caribbean American Unity Fest is a vibrant cultural celebration designed to honor and showcase Caribbean heritage through music, food, entertainment, and community engagement. The festival aims to bring together residents and visitors from across Broward County to celebrate the rich diversity, culture, and contributions of the Caribbean American community. The City’s vision is to establish the Caribbean American Unity Fest as a premier annual cultural event within Broward County that attracts thousands of attendees while fostering community pride, cultural appreciation, and economic activity within Lauderdale Lakes.
Additionally, the City is combining the Caribbean American Unity Fest with the Taste of Lauderdale Lakes initiative to create one larger, unified community event experience. The goal of this collaborative approach is to maximize available funding resources while enhancing the overall impact of the event through expanded cultural programming, entertainment, food experiences, and community participation. This unified event model is intended to strengthen community engagement, increase attendance, further promote local businesses, and showcase the cultural diversity within the City of Lauderdale Lakes.
The festival will feature a food tasting experience highlighting local businesses and restaurants, providing an opportunity for local establishments to showcase their cuisine, increase visibility, and promote economic engagement within the community.
As part of the event programming, the City has secured entertainment services through an agreement between the City of Lauderdale Lakes and Jukebox Production for the performance services of Tarrus Riley, internationally recognized Reggae artist, professionally known as Tarrus Riley, who will serve as the event headliner. The total cost associated with the agreement shall not exceed $50,000 which includes entertainment presentation services, per diem expenses, hotel accommodations, and transportation costs related to the Caribbean American Unity Fest event. To support the success of the event and offset associated costs, the City has received sponsorship support, including a Headliner Hospitality Sponsorship.
Staff recommends approval of the resolution authorizing the agreement between the City of Lauderdale Lakes and Jukebox Production for the performance services of Tarrus Riley in connection with the Caribbean American Unity Fest scheduled for June 5, 2026.
Approval of the resolution will authorize the agreement for entertainment services associated with the Caribbean American Unity Fest: Food and Wine Tasting which will support a signature cultural event that promotes community engagement, celebrates Caribbean heritage, enhances regional recognition for the City of Lauderdale Lakes, and creates opportunities for local business exposure and economic activity.
