Summary

This is a discussion regarding the submission of an application to the FEMA Fire Prevention & Safety (FP&S) Grant Program. The grant supports projects that reduce the risk of fire-related injuries and deaths through public education, community risk reduction initiatives, firefighter safety programs, and related prevention activities.

Background:

The Fire Prevention & Safety (FP&S) Grant Program is a component of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program and is administered by FEMA. The program focuses on reducing fire-related injuries, deaths, and property loss through prevention, education, and firefighter safety initiatives. Eligible projects may include smoke alarm installation campaigns, public fire and life safety education programs, community risk reduction efforts, and firefighter health and safety research. FP&S grants support proactive measures that improve public safety and reduce risks before emergencies occur.

 

Project Summary:
This application is considering the funding a Life and Safety Officer position. The proposed position would focus on enhancing firefighter health and safety, ensuring compliance with applicable safety standards, conducting safety training and evaluations, investigating incidents and near misses, and supporting the City's overall risk management and safety programs. The position would help strengthen the City's safety culture, reduce occupational risks, and improve operational readiness.
